Lameazoid.com - Weekly Wrap Up (2016.08.16)

Its the third week of Blaugust. I think. I have not really been keeping track honestly, I don’t really care about “theme weeks” this year.

I got a new car… for work. Its not, my car, but its my car to use. Its nothing fancy but it has some “fancy stuff” I have never really used before like lane assist and Android Auto. Too bad the bass sucks on the stereo. My music sounds so weak ass. Its not the EQ either, I checked that. Its convenient, but also it has all these work rules and monitoring, which is a bit annoying. I already drive pretty defensively, so I am not super worried about it, but its still annoying that its there.

Music

Last Sunday was the last free MCCD concert for the season. It was a local group called Harlem Hayfield. They are only the second group I have seen there that had a full proper drum kit. Plus they had 6 dudes up on that smallish wagon stage they use. I didn’t take a pic, maybe I should have. They were pretty good. Kind of, bluegrass bluesey rock-ish music. I particularly liked that there were songs thst kind of featured each of the members more prominently at least once. Like a keyboard solo or guitar solo, etc.

I set up this new system to supplement my Navidrome set up called Audiomuse-AI. Don’t let the name fool you, I am pretty sure this isn’t like “AI AI”. It basically does a bunch of fingerprinting and clustering on a music library, so it and things like Navidrome can do better “Play similar songs” randomization. I thought my Last.fm connection was supposed to do this but it seems like it did not.

I set it up Monday and started the initial music analysis. Its like… halfway through, maybe… its a looooong slow process given the size of my music library. I believe it only needs to do it once though. So once its done, then I can move on to the clustering algorithm.

I have not gotten any new music but Power Snatch (Hayley William’s side band thing) put out a new EP and Claud has a pre order on a new album. So there is, potential for the future. Ok, side note, I technically recently bought the Transformers Movie soundtrack anniversary vinyl, but its sitting in my BBTS Pile of Loot.

Toys

Nothing exciting. Walmart had this Mario set on clearance. I mostly got it for the Wiggler and the pipes, which are “close enough” for my care to the larger figures.

Technically speaking, the small Mario works too, as “Small Mario”, but he isn’t pose-able.

I also came across this neat little Mothra egg at Ross. I have been hitting Ross a bit more these days because they have been getting some decent Transformers stuff, though I have not found any myself yet. But this Mothra is kind of a Transformer. Its fun because its basically all of Mothra’s forms, Egg, Larva, and Moth, all in one. Though the Larva kind of looks… questionable…

It comes off by the way, it doesn’t have to hang there like a weird giant turd. Also, there are some others in this like but my Ross did not have them. I kind of want the Ghidorah, because it looks all fat and goofy with its egg body.

Video Games

That Star Trek Lower Decks game finally ended. I am free from this game, which I hate. I could go on and on but why bother. It was monetized hell. The events with their leader board based rewards were absolute cancer too. I started using an auto clicker near the end. Even with an auto clicker, I still somehow managed to always just end at like, rank 40-60+. Which basically gets zero meaningful rewards. You basically get nothing unless you finish in the top 20, and even then its still basically nothing unless you are in the top 5.

Projects

Aside from the audio fingerprinting, I had a second task, one that was on my “check it out/todo” list for a while. I set up Tailscale. Which is a sort of, mesh VPN set up. More specifically, aside from just setting it up on my basic machines (Laptop, Desktop, Phone, Server), I set up a Raspberry Pi to serve as a bridge node to the shop. I have not tested it yet but I have pre configured most of it.

The reason is two fold. I can get to the security cameras there this way to use my local DVR/Home Assistant set up. They record locally, but having the secondary server recording would be ideal.

Also, I can set up access to the shared folders on the home NAS. It’ll probably be a bit pokey, but this was my wife and daughter can access their images etc for eBay while at the shop.

So far I just have the Pi pre-configured with the SSID and network sharing parts. In theory, I can just plug it in somewhere and it will connect. I can work out the details of network shares etc later. I don’t have a monitor to use at the shop and don’t really want to drag one there. But I will take my laptop to SSH if needed.
