I don’t own a ton of Beast Box stuff, though I kind of want to, because a lot of them are really interesting and frankly, they are not that expensive. Lovegun here isn’t the first one, but its the most complex and interesting one I have picked up. I mean, one of the 2 others I have is just a bunch of penguins.
The core gimmick of this line is the Box. I believe everything they put out turns into a Box. There may be one or two other modes, but they will all turn into these universally sized cubes that fit inside these little plastic storage containers. Its actually kind of a neat gimmick.
I feel like it can lead to some fiddly transformations. Lovegun is considerably more complex than my previous Beast Box toys. Especially being effectively a triple changer. There are some tricky steps to the transformations that I keep forgetting at times, but also that kind of makes it more fun in my opinion. Part of why I like transforming toys is the puzzle.of working them out, and I rarely use the instructions.
The gimmick and complexity does feel like it creates some downsides. There are a few parts that feel very thin, especially the wings, and I worry they may break over time. Also there are several small sliding bits and panels that I worry will end up being weak points. I also have found a few pegged on parts tend to come off easily, but popping off joints is much more preferred than something that may break.
The Dove mode is probably my favorite of the three modes though. There are a few expressive ways to pose it, including a goofy patriotic salute. He doesn’t have a super compelling flight mode, but he still works just standing. I love the dichotomy of the Peace Dove in a military had and sort of, flack jacket looking armor. That turns into a gun.
Generally speaking, this is a cool toy with some rather overt commentary in its parody. The transformation is kind of overly fidgety, but if you are into that like me then you will probably find that a positive more than a negative.
I still really like this little dude. Its so absurdly goofy. There are two main modes here, one is a gun, one is a dove, in a military helmet. Spreading peace through violence, the Murrican way. The color scheme isn’t quite “America” the red white and blue are there but there are also a few orange bits. The orange bits may actually be legally required since he turns into a gun, and in the gun mode, the end of the barrel is primarily where the orange appears.
