Lameazoid.com - Weekly Wrap Up (2026.09.12)

No fun work trips this week, no exciting extra activities, just a fairly run of the mill week of the same old normal stuff. (Proceeds to post a long ass post)

Except for the part where we had a bunch of dudes show and and tear the roof off and replace it at the house. Which I wasn’t really around for because I had work. Not that I would have been doing much, the guy who gave us the quite said he has had entire jobs where he doesn’t even meet with the people having the work done.

Toys

Ross is actually getting stuff in, which has been nice. I picked up that TFOne Elita-1 last week, this week I found another TFOne Studio Series, this time it was Starscream. I actually have a sword sort of soft spot for Deluxe sized Starscreams, and have quite a few of them. This one has some, interestingly complex points.

They also had Power of the Primes Crasher. I was a bit torn on this one. I have the old old Crasher, from the lanky Classics Mirage mild. Like that one, this Crasher is also a Mirage repaint. I rather like the old Crasher, but the robot mode on that one really doesn’t look much like Crasher.

This robot is much more black, and much stockier, which really helps the resemblance more. They can’t just make Crasher, because Machine Robo and Bandai owns those designs. But the vehicle here is still the wrong style of race car. I can forgive that though because the robot is much nicer and a much closer match.

Lastly, my pursuit of McDonald’s Godzilla X Hello Kitty toys. I am just short one Badtz-maru Rodan. I have gotten several extras though and so I may just sell the extras and buy the Rodan one. I hate this blind box style nonsense. No, the toys themselves are not blind boxed, but the nature of Happy Meals kind of is.

Books

I don’t buy a ton of physical books, but I ended up with two this week, one more interesting than the other. The more boring one, was Volume 1 of the Amazing Digital Circus adaptation. It’s… Annoyingly faithful to the show. Redundantly so. The art even isn’t even some flashy Manga style like some adaptations.

The second is much more interesting, and arrived conveniently on Star Trek Day. It’s been something I have been on the fence ordering for years because it’s hard to find and fairly rare. Thus it was a little expensive. But I have been wanting a copy for a while.

I bought a copy of Star Trekker, a parody manga put out, hell, probably in the 90s (I could check I guess) by Antarctic Press. I’ll do a more complete write up later, and probably repeat a bit of this there, but a bit of history for my part. Some of the few comics I regularly collected were from Antarctic Press, specifically Ninja High School and Gold Diggers. They did a lot of, sort of American Manga, goofy kind of off kilter stories with a lot of influence by Manga at the time. There were a few artists but they all shared a vaguely similar sort of “house style.”

This one is hard to find. I have looked a lot and could not even find a digital copy to buy (or pirate) anywhere. So I bought a used one off eBay. It wasn’t THAT expensive, but it may actually have been more than I have paid for any other book that wasn’t a college text book.

Music

There was an estate sale that had some nice Pentax lenses available. ~~I didn’t end up buying any of them.~~ I was hoping for a deal, the prices were fine, I just, can’t afford them (I did get a $10 50mm Prime lens that was not pricey for some reason).

But I did end up buying a small stack of CDs. I was kind of surprised the place had stuff I actually care about maybe listening to. Though after going through the place, I feel like these people, or the guy that lives there anyway, was probably kind of similar to my dad. Just, based on the stuff he had books on and the CD options. Anyway, here’s the list, which includes several Jimmy Buffett CDs, so I can work on also transforming more into my dad, apparently.

At the same sale, I went back the next day for half price day and bought a guitar for $25. One of my “New Decade” resolutions was to learn to play any instrument, and my piano learning stalled out years ago. Guitar was my other choice and I have been looking for a deal on something.

It’s not anything fancy. There are strings in the case to replace the two broken strings, so I get to learn to do that right out the gate and tune it, I suppose.

Photography

I said I didn’t get any lenses, but when I went back for half price day they were still there and after some debating, I decided to get two of them. I left 2 bodies with lenses and a third lens, the third lens looked like ti was the basic lens that normally comes with the cameras, and the other two were telephoto long lenses, but seemed comparable tot he one I already own. I don’t really need any bodies. I’ve got, I think 3 working Pentax DSLR bodies now and 1 not working.

Anyway, these all seemed useful, and I still use my DSLR quite a bit for photos for this blog and trips, like when I went ot he St Louis Zoo recently.

Two of them are Prime lenses, one is a Pentax branded 50mm 1:1.4 lens. The other is a Tamron 90mm 1:2.8. The other is a beefy telephoto lens, also from Tamron, it’s a 70-200mm 1:2.8 lens. I checked all of them for functionality with one of the bodies at the sale. I have a Telephoto lens, but this one is nicer, and a lot heavier. I may have a 50mm Prime lens, but I am pretty sure it’s an old Ricoh for a film camera.

If you aren’t really a photography person, Prime lenses have a fixed focal length, 50mm and 90mm in this case. Essentially, it doesn’t “zoom”. But this usually means it can be a bit crisper and nicer on the glass. The other new lens, isn’t a Prime lens, it has a variable focal length from 70mm-200mm. The total cost for all three was well below the cost to buy elsewhere (eBay). Like 25% of what it may have cost.

Honorable mention tot he Mortar and Pestle from Amazon that I have been looking forward to getting so I can process my herbs and hot peppers from the garden. It turned out to be a secret Transformer upon arrival with an alt mode of “a small pile of marble chunks.”
