Social Media is Dead, Long Live Social Media

And other Hyperbolic click baity headlines. Two articles today. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/01/mastodon-becomes-nonprofit-to-make-sure-its-never-ruined-by-billionaire-ceo/ And https://www.heise.de/en/news/Unprecedented-growth-Facebook-blocks-links-to-Instagram-alternative-Pixelfed-10237928.html Basically, Mastodon, the Federated Open Source client for microblogging is shifting itself to be a not for profit company. John Mastodon os no longer in control. Or, he won't be. These things apparently take a few months to do. Tangentially related, its picture centric counterpart Pixelfed, has experienced unprecedented growth. I saw one post where a Pixelfed instance was no longer allowing Instagram importing and Facebook is apparently blocking links to Pixelfed. Both of these moves are very good for the internet as a whole, but they also…

Facebook and Instagram introduce AI bot ‘user’ accounts Hey Facebook, you ok there? Meta plans to roll out generative AI (genAI) characters on Facebook and Instagram this year in an effort to boost user engagement. Also, they apparently also deleted these accounts after the backlash, with some excuse about it being a "test product" and that it was run by humans on the backend. You know it will come back though. These companies have wasted too much time and money on this AI garbage to turn back now. But one, I don't know why they need to do this, these…
Kazinga

Kazinga

Over the New Years holiday, after a failed attempt at Tripoley, we switched to a game called Kazinga. Funny enough, like Tripoley, it also uses chips, though not for betting. Thats about the extent of the similarities though. The game it primarily about dice rolling, though there are some additional bonus cards each player has to use as well. At the start of each game, each player is distributed a number of different colored chips and 3 bonus cards. The object, in the general sense, is to collect, or to get rid of all chips of a single color. There…

My Music Listening Habbits for 2024

I have to admit, this is my own personal favorite post for each year, even if no one else cares. Q look back on my music listening for the year, and how it has, or has not changed or evolved, and a round of trying to make predictions, and then working to not make those predictions self fulfilling in some weird attempt to not be wrong about my predictions. Anyway, lets get it going then, with the 5x5 for albums. Unsurprisingly, Aurora's What Happened to the Heart was my most listened to album. And this doesn't even count time spent…

Lauren Mayberry – Vicious Creature

Probably my most anticipated album for this year, it felt like it had ended up delayed and delayed. I was feeling pretty hyped over a year ago, during the initial tour, and managed to keep that hype going pretty strong, thankfully. Being hyped doesn't always make bias though, I have had plenty of albums I was excited for completely fizzle out. This is not one of those. If I have any issue with this album, and its not a big one because its something a LOT of albums suffer from these days, its the lack of overall cohesion. Every track…
