I skipped last week. I mostly just, was not really feeling it. So I’ll do a vague bit of catch up I suppose.
In general life things, I honestly have just been overall pretty meh. Part of why I skipped last week. Everything just kind of feel like it sure is a thing that is. The world in general going to shit isn’t helping. But let’s not dwell on that. I keep writing up and not posting politics things, maybe I should post those more.
Speaking of things I didn’t post, I also wrote up about passing my 15 year work anniversary. I just don’t really care to write too much directly about my job, but it’s quite a milestone. I think I get another week of vacation time at this point. I do get a meal out with my manager and the chance to order a milestone gift. I went “exciting” with a bare bones Hard drive, because instead of the usual “Pick from this selection of items” it was “Order a thing from Amazon using these points, which is “basically $100”.
I’ve kind of been needing to invest in a larger drive for a while, specifically, a really large drive for my project PC. Everything in it is basically “used drives” that are also “a bit old”, so having something newer and larger allows me to consolidate things off of these risky drives. I can roll it into the Linux conversion I’ve been putting off. This PC still runs Windows 10, and I really need to change it over to run Linux, because of the end of life on Windows 10. I don’t think it will be too difficult, but it will be a bit of a chore. I need to map and share drives and get them to auto-mount, and more importantly, I need to reconfigure and set up my existing docker containers. Plus reset up Plex, though I may replace that with Kodi because Plex has been just getting more and more shady.
Music
Another round of the Outdoor Concerts at Rock Springs put on by the Macon County Conservation District. This week it was Rylie Bourne. This one felt a bit more interesting of the ones so far because she is younger, and did a bit more, we’ll call it modern style music lyrically with an older sort of sound. Sort of like, country music, but not really pop country. She also had her dad playing with her as well, who was an interesting sort of character himself. She mentioned he had been in some band at some point, and he seemed to both simultaneously be really enjoying himself, while not wanting to play. I think it was more the former, but whatever the case, it fit the overall tone.
I enjoyed it, even though I’m not a huge country listener.
In other music news of interest to me, Friday blessed not one but two nice treats. First we have a new Sigrid Video, for Jellyfish. There have been a few new tracks being played on her current tour and there is hopefully an album coming up soon.
And even better, Lauren Mayberry put out an acoustic EP version of Vicious Creature. I knew this was coming and the bonus surprise is, she put it out for free. I was ready and willing to buy this album (for the third time now). You can find a link on her Linktree thing, which will hopefully work because the links that have been sent out in other channels don’t seem to be working for some people or in some browsers. Supposedly, THIS ONE works.
Vicious Creature is easily the album I’ve listened to the most int he past 6 months, and this acoustic version is pretty great as well.
Movies and TV
It’s been a surprisingly heavy week for movies and TV. My wife and I really enjoy The Rookie, and we caught up on the latest season. I enjoy the show, but it’s starting to feel like it’s getting a little too, out there in the outlandishness on some of it’s plots. The first couple of seasons were very much grounded and down to earth and felt a bit more realistic overall.

We also watched a few movies, I’ve gotten on some sort of “older classics” kick. We watched Twister and Twisters. Twister is always entertaining, Twisters was, alright, it did a good job of just not retreading the original. I’m a bit disappointed it didn’t have any real direct references to Twister though, aside from “Dorothy V” in the opening sequence. I also had an urge to watch the only Adam Sandler movie I can really stand with Happy Gilmore. I guess there is going to be a sequel at some point. Twister for some reason made me want to watch Titanic again. Ironically, I forgot that Bill Paxton was in both.

Lastly, I’ve started watching through the old Superman films with Christopher Reeve. Man he is a good Superman. At least early on. I feel like they kind of got increasingly kind of too goofy over time. The opening sequence of the third film is particularly full of “WTF is even happening”. It’s kind of wild watching this way more human Superman versus the modern ‘”Destroy buildings and super speed everywhere” heroes. It’s all much less frantic than modern super hero movies. Anyway, I already started doing a little write up so I’ll probably put that up once I have gone through them all.
Video Games
I feel like Pokemon Yellow has weirdly stalled. I’m still stuck here at 4 Gyms, despite moving a long, and beating the fake Fighting Gym, and Lavender Town and getting the Poke Flute from Team Rocket, and here I am, still at 4 Gyms out of 8 down. Maybe gym progress is not the best way to measure things here.
I also started trying to branch out a bit with Robocop Rogue City. It’s pretty good so far. I was actually kind of wondering how the movement would feel, Robocop is not exactly the most nimble character. The environments are designed super well so even with your slow Robocop Walk, nothing feels too huge and weird.

Back on Pokemon, I made it to Level 41 in Pokemon Go. Which is nice because there is a special Eevee thing going on this week and I one of the Level 41 tasks is evolving all of the Eevee forms. Though I had already prepared some Eevees. But I could also dump a bunch of extra Eevees I had into the Pokemon Grinder. I also evolved both of my shiny Eevees, one into Sylveon, and the other in the Umbreon. I need to think of a Tron themed name for that Tron colored Umbreon.
The tasks for level 40 to 50 are not that hard, the real challenge is the massive experience needed for each level. 40 to 41 was 6 million experience. This one is 7.5 million.
Toys
Not a lot but I did do a little toy stuff this week. One, I got a super great deal at an estate sale for a second Micro Machines Super Van City. I already have one but a second feels like it could be useful. I was hoping it was in a bit better shape than it is, but that’s ok, it’s a secondary one, and I may look into modifying it up some. The main thing it’s kind of fun for is for all the toy photos I never end up taking, specifically, thse sort of things work a s a neat backdrop for Kaiju style figures.
I also picked up Marvel Legends Ultimate Iron Man on a sale. I don’t have the old Toybiz verson of this design for some reason, but it’s a design that I’ve always thought was cool. It’s got a nice bulky mechanical feel to it compared to a lot of other iron Man figures. I like that a lot. It’s part of why I like War Machine armors more than Iron Man armors.
