Another month another game. These things are actually getting a bit harder to program due to sometimes less than clear instructions but at the same time the final results seem like they do less. Or at least require less human interaction. I guess simple is better. I mean the fourth and final project is just a simulation thing of spiders killing bugs. I have a few ideas on makin one of the spiders user controlled. Then again for field based battleing I'd have to go with Mechwarrior 4 instead I think.
    On that note. MW4 is a pretty decent game. I think I still have a few mixed feelings on certain things but it's pretty good in general. The missions are pretty standard fare for any mission based game, do objectives with Lancemates (wingmen, partiners , whatever), and gain upgrades as you go. The Instant action is probably the more fun part. Not only is there built in codes such as invincibility and unlimited ammo, but you can create a custom mech with whatever parts you want. Within some limitation, which is the biggest annoyance and downfall I think. I mean sure you can get some decent combinations, but the whole system just seems too limited. It would be great if you could build a mech with quad Gauss rifels but the weapons pods are limited to the types of weapons they can be loaded with. And then there is the tonnage limitation, each mech can only carry so much. Sure you can sacrafice speed and armor for more weapon tonnage but I've found the balance in weight between engine, armor, and weapons sits very heavily on weapons. Stripping a mech of all it's armor will gain you maybe 5 tons if you're lucky. Then downgrading the engine to the lowest level giving you a top speed of about 60 will gain another 10 tons, MAYBE. Then if you drop off all the extras like jump jets, you gain another 5, now you can equip only 1 or maybe 2 more heavy weapons, and thats assuming your slots are free and match up. Plus now your mech will be a sitting duck to any opponent. Anything you face will run twice as fast as you and even with light crappy weapons they will quickly obliterate your mech with it's .1 armor level. Basically I think if some lazy programmer out there would get off his ass and make a trainer for this game that let you hack the mechs, things could be a lot more fun. In the meantime I'll have to settle for running circles around Mad Cat MK2s win my Osiris in multiplayer. Or alternately pummleing light mechs with dual Thunderbolt launchers. Bottom line, if you want this game, feel free to wait till the price drops to 30 or so. It's not worht shelling out 50 bucks for, generally no game is.
