Weekly Wednesday Haul – Square Boxes Edition

So last week I didn’t have a haul, and this week, has a few things but it’s not really anything major.  Partially there’s been a bit of a drought for anything I care about, partially, it’s the moving thing.  I did get an alert on CamelCamelCamel that the World of Nintendo Metroid was available for an affordable price, so I snapped it right up.

Still in the bubble wrap.  Mostly because well, moving, that rubber bubble is probably a dirt magnet and the safest way to transport it seems like it will be to just keep it in the box for now.  It will be freed eventually, I’m not some crazy MISB collector.

I also happened upon something else that’s square and box shapped with this pretty sweet Battle Star Galactica complete series set of DVDs.  I kind of wanted to watch this show and it came with this nice Cylon action figure.  It was $6 at a Resale shop, seemed like a steal for the cool box and the Cylon alone.

Lastly was an unexpected surprise, today I recieved a Valvotron figure in the mail from Valvoline.  I wasn’t sure if I’d actually get this guy at all.  Originally Valvoline posted they were running a contest, buy 5 quarts of oil at a Valvoline store, or send in a card, and get entered to win one of 5000 Valvotron figures.  I don’t have a Valvoline store nearby so I mailed in a card.  A few days after I mailed the card, Valvoline changed it to just be “Buy 5 quarts and mail to get one”.  No more contest.  I guess I won anyway, there was even a letter stating as such, so sweet, Valvotron.  He doesn’t transform, though he has bits implying he turns into an oil can.  The figure has 4 points of articulation, hips and shoulders.

Weekly Wednesday Haul – A Plethora of Accessories Edition

So, I had a pre order in at AmiAmi for this little park bench model kit that finally came up.  Shipping a $12 model kit from japan alone isn’t particularly worthwhile, my intention was to toss on MP-32 Optimus Primal on with it, but it was irritatingly suddenly not in stock.  So I poked around a bit and settled on some alternative items since one, I needed something to justify the shipping cost and two, I had the money set aside.  One of those items was a set of Petit Sample Seishun Days Blind Box accessories set.  These are blind boxed, but they were only available as a case, which meant getting one of each set.

The pieces themselves are all pretty amazing.  There’s all sorts of crazy details like removable liquid bits for the glasses, little cassette tapes and floppy disks.  The coffee machine has these little sugar cubes or something that I’ve already lost two of because they are ridiculously tiny.  They are a biiit oversized for 6″ figures but not awful enough to make them unusable as fun little props.

In addition, I found that the Figma Twilight Princess Link was available.  I already had it on pre order elsewhere so i cancelled that pre order and just ordered one now.  I already have the Link Between Worlds Link which is more my “definitive ideal” Link, but I really wanted an “adult Link” to fit in better with other figures, and the Twilight Princess design seemed pretty nice.

Speaking of A link Between Worlds, Amazon had the game in stock for a reasonable (normal retail) price so I picked that up as well, it’s been quite a Zelda time lately.

Weekly Wednesday Haul – Toaster Car Edition

Hot Wheels are bad for me.  I don’t really collect Hot Wheels and I don’t buy a lot of them, but they are cheap enough to end up being an impulse buy, especially when things have been dry in other areas.  Primarily I buy movie cars, which includes The Fast and the Furious and every Batmobile.  My Batmobile buying has gotten bad enough that I’ve ended up with some dupes because I didn’t realize I had a particular Batmobile.

I generally can push off oddity cars unless I find something I really want, ie, a movie car.  In this case, I found this Simpson’s Car.

I love the little dent on the front it has.  It’ll go well with my The Homer for sure.  Picking up this little car spurred me to throw a few more on the pile, like this truck that’s also a toaster.

It’s slightly disappointing because, while the toast goes down, it doesn’t lock down and spring load up in any way.  Still, I’m a sucker for these gimmicky cars which is why I also picked up this truck with a toilet attached.

This one ended up being better than expected because the toilet seat flips up and down as it rolls along, which is awesome.

Weekly Wednesday Haul: Out of Town Deals Edition

So last weekend, I went out of town to help my brother move.  After everything was settling down we went out running around his new area a bit and one of the stops was the local Toys R Us (and Ross).  Across these stores, I picked up Marvel Legends Nuke, Sherlock Holmes, and a sweet Classic Adam West Batman with Batcave.  All on some sort of mark down or clearance.

All of these are figures I kind of wanted on some level but didn’t really want want, so finding them for less is definitely fortuitous.  Since Ross has been getting the Giant Man wave in, I’ve been picking them up in order to build Giant Man.  It turns out I needed more of them than I remembered and I can’t find the leg and arm I already had.  They will turn up, they are probably just packed for the move.

Sherlock is neat, but I forgot that he’s a smaller 5-5.5″ scale range, so he’s a little short, but he’ll work.

Batman is really neat, and as simple as it is, the BatComputer is cooler than I expected.  The cardboard wall and computer turn around to become the office entrance to the Batcave.  It’s a simple but neat effect.  Also, having an Adam West Batman will be fun for any future photos.

Weekly Wednesday Haul – Clearance Heroes

Not a ton going on here this round, though I came across the Doctor Strange wave of Marvel Legends on clearance for $5 each.  I picked up Strange’s buddy Karl Mordo.  He’ll probably show up again later and these movie characters can be so hit or miss on if they gt a newer release, I figure he’s a good investment.  I also got a second Nico Minoru, because I feel like it would be a good base for some sort of fun custom.

I also picked up some Megabloks Ninja Turtles Mini figs for a buck each.

Later, at a Ross, I found this Daenerys Targaryen on super mark down.  I’m not huge on getting a bunch of Game of Thrones toys but this Dani seemed alright.  Also I am still kind of kicking myself for passing on a bunch a few years ago at $3 each.

The last toy this week is World of Nintendo Falco.  He was not on clearance, in fact he was overpriced at the TRU mark up.  Except he’s several waves old, I never figured I’d see Falco and had already decided that once I picked up Peppy, I’d go ahead and eat the mark up on a $20+ Falco off of Amazon to complete the set.  Looks like I dodged that bullet.  They also had Peppy, but Peppy is new, I’m confident I can wait it out and get one at Target for $8 instead of Toys R Us’ ridiculous $15 after tax.  These figures are not worth $15.

Weekly Wednesday Haul – Super Fighting Robot Edition

Not a lot going on lately on the acquisitions front.  I did pick up this pretty neat Sentinel Mega Man figure.  I’m always kind of torn on the Mega Man vs Rock Man thing.  Both are cool for their own reasons, and being in the US I’m of course more familiar with “Mega Man”.

I was hoping he would be a bit on the larger end of 4″ and fit better with my Model Kit Roll, but sadly he’s way too small.  He look bitching with my other Video Gamey figures though.

Weekly Wednesday Haul – World of Star Fox Edition

World of Nintendo was a line that I had originally decided to ignore but now kind of regret ignoring.  It seemed like an neat line but it also felt like a line that would end up cancelled after 2 waves before they finished any sets or got interesting with it’s characters. Also, it has some wonky scale issues.   Then there is the part where half the stores have them priced way more than the figures look like they are worth and in general, stuff is hardish to find.  I Apparently they managed to complete the Star Fox team, which has me playing catch up a bit on finding them.  I’m not sure Peppy is out in any real force yet though, and I found both Slippy and Fox at a Target for under $10 plus holiday coupon deals made them a steal.

World of Nintendo Fox McCloud

World of Nintendo Slippy Frog

World of Nintendo Bomb-Om, Shyguy, and Red Mushroom Retainer

I also picked up a few of the smaller figures.  The best part of this line is that it matches in scale to the SH Figuarts Mario Brothers figures.    It makes for a great way to easily and cheaply have baddies for Mario to face off against.

Transformers Titans Return Wolfwire (Weird Wolf)

While we are on the subject of wild dogs, I also wrapped up my Wave 2 Titans Returns figures with Wolfwire.  I was getting a bit worried because this wave seems to have fallen into that lost void of waves a bit.  Only Walgreens seems to have gotten them in any real level and they are charging way too much for them.  I was worried I’d end up missing out.  This wouldn’t be so bad except I really wanted to complete the original Headmasters line up.  There are a few others that look interesting but I could stop now on Titans Return and be happy.

Weekly Wednesday Haul – Black Friday Edition

This weeks haul is going to be a bit more of a list with notes than anything, it’s a little bit of catch up and a lot of bit of things that aren’t toys.  Toys don’t really go on sale around Black Friday in any meaningful way, at least not the ones I care about buying.  What does go on sale are Video Games and Movies.

I played this during the open beta deal before release but didn’t really care for it enough to pay $60 for it.  I don’t generally pay full retail for games ever, $50 is nuts for a game, anything more puts it right out.  Pretty much everywhere has had it on sale for 40% off though all week, so I picked up Overwatch.  I like the concept and I could use something to fill the TF2 shaped hole I’ve had for a while.  I think my biggest issue, and why I didn’t buy it at release, the game has a severe lack of community.  At least, nowhere near the level TF2 had.  TF2 was pretty much all community run servers, I even was admin on a server for a while with a group of friends.  Overwatch, barely anyone ever speaks on voice or even text types.  It’s very… lonely.  It isn’t help that every match seems to be pretty much random folks, so it seems hard to make friends like you would having a “regular TF2 server” to hang out on and see the same people constantly.

The Secret World

I finished up Wildstar recently, by which I mean, I made it to level 50 and stopped playing.  I have a handful of other MMOs I want to play through to max level or so, The Secret World is one of them.  Funcom had a deal for the entire compliment of DLC at around $20, so I figured what the hell.  I still want to push through Guild Wars 2 and Lord of the Rings online as well (bought all of the LotRO DLC in a similar deal last year).

Battlefield 1

I generally don’t play this sort of game but I keep seeing videos and GIFs that make it seems pretty boss.  I have not really played it yet since I ordered a boxed copy of an online code, since that was what was on sale for cheaper.

Hawkeye Vol 2 (Hardcover)

Every year Barnes and Noble has a 40% coupon around Black Friday and every year I end up ordering something on my “books I want but want to pay less for list”.  I already have Volume 1 and I am pretty sure there is only a Volume 2 to complete the set.  There were some softcover releases that had 4 volumes but each of the hardcovers is equivalent to two of the soft cover books.

Marvel Legends Jean Grey

Just before the holiday I ordered Jean Grey from the Juggernaut wave.  She is a bland as expected and I pretty much just ordered her to complete my Juggernaut.  The juggernaut is pretty good and other than a lack of neck armor, he’s better than my old Toybiz Juggernaut.

  • The Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 (BR) – Yeah it’s being rebooted but I like all of these superhero movies.
  • Mocking Jay Vol 2 (BR) – Each year on Black Friday I’ve bought a Hunger Games movie for cheap, I guess this is the last year.
  • X-Men Apocalypse (BR) – Bringing me up to date on my X-men movies
  • Game of Thrones Season 3 (DVD) – Last year I picked up S1 and S2, I was hoping for S3 and 4 this year but only 3 was available
  • The Hobbit Trilogy (BR) – Mostly because I didn’t have it
  • The Lord of the Rings 2 Disc Set (BR) – I have the fancy Book Design Extended DVD set but I’d like to have this on Blue Ray plus this saves the shelf life of my fancy set.
