Get Subnautica Free on the Epic Games Store

Epic Games, creators of the extremely popular game Fortnight, have recently made a big splash in the gaming market by announcing their new digital PC Storefront.  This is basically their answer to Steam, GOG, Origin and other similar launchers.  As part of the new launch, they also have announced that they will have a free game every two weeks for 2019. The first of their free titles is Subnautica.

Subnautica is an open world survival style game set underwater.  Players gather materials to live and build things while fighting off under sea creatures.  Like I said, I’ve looked at buying it a few times, it looks pretty interesting and I’ve heard good things about it.

The first game is Subnautica, available from 12/14 through 12/27.  It’s not clear if you get the game permanently or if it’s just free during this period.  Either way, I’m looking forward to it since I’ve been looking at buying Subnautica for a while now.

On the keep or not keep aspects.  I imagine Epic realizes that one of the ways to make sure their store successful is to make sure players have a library of games to play.  Otherwise it just becomes an inconvenient necessity for launching the occasional exclusive title.  Does the world need another digital storefront?  That verdict is out and probably a better discussion for another day but personally, Steam has felt a little bloated for a while now, so alternative options aren’t really a bad thing.
