The Mega Man Number System

An article full of purposely incorrect facts that is actually based on something hugely incorrect by complete accident. I guess that's what I get for doing the research part of these things AFTER I write them. It's not like it was a lot of trouble to get up, walk 4 feet to the drawer where I keep all my NES games, open it, and check to make sure I was right in my assumptions.

As you may well know, there are well, a lot of Mega Man games. Counting only the main games, there are 6 for the NES, Mega Man to Mega Man VI (Vee Eye), one for the SNES, Mega Man VII(Vee Eye Eye) and One for PSX, Mega Man VIII (Vee Eye Eye Eye). Now, we are not sure why someone would use such an abstract numbering system. I mean, It appears "V" must mean "5" since it appears on the fifth installment. Why they didn't just call the games "Mega Man 3" and "Mega Man 8" we don't know. Personally I find it tireing to type out all thise "Eye"s and I use the shortened method.

Then they decide to jumble the mix some by calling Mega Man IX (Eye Ecks), Rockman and Forte. Now not only is this strange that they decide to drop the Eye numbering system, but now they are calling Mega Man "Rock Man" for some insane reason. We speculate it has to do with mind control, or perhapse it's the Japanese people's way of getting revenge for that little Hiroshima thing by confusing out children. Not that it realy matters because Mega Man and Forte never made it to the US anyway, which is a real shame because Forte and Gospel (aka Bass and Treble) are so much cooler than Mega Man and Ruch (aka Rock Man and Rock Man's Dog).

So now that we are totally wacked on the numbering, they decide to return to the old system with Mega Man X. Now X we know means 10, which is why it comes next in line, but that Mega Man 10 was released years before several of the other games (Mega Man VI and beyond) is completely mind boggling. The whole thing wreeeks of an Evil Plot. Now then, to make matters worse, They completely skip over Mega Man 11, and go straight to Mega Man X2 (Twelve). Now Maybe I could beleive that XII is 12, going witht he old Eye system, but now we are mixing the old system with the more conventional English numbers system. They then proceed to Mega Man X3 (Thirteen), and Mega Man X4 (Fourteen). They also trid to confuse us even more by renaming Proto Man (aka Break Man, aka Bruce) to Zero and slighly altering his look from Robot that looks like Mega Man only red to: Robot tht looks like Mega Man only red with a pony tail.

Now there are several other confusions brought up in this series, such as why they call it Mega MAN when "his" voice is clearly that of a ten year old girl, but we won't get into that at the moment. This is about the shitty numbering system used ont hese games.

Of course, these games are also made by Capcom, who atre famouse for thier Street Fighter Numbering System, which involves numbering all games int he series "II" and adding ten word tag lines instea dof upping the numbers (Super Eleet Hyper Mega Almight Street Fighter II Turbo Deluxe Mega Mix Remixed Version alpha Beta Tau Gamma). Leave it to the Japanaese to fuck up foreign numbering.
