Other Action Figures

Here are some of the other action figures I own that are few enough in number
to not deserve their own section.  You can click on the pictures for a larger
image.  Note this page has problems on large monitors and I havn't yet figured out a way to remedy this without removing the pictures all together.  I think the resolution is 640 X 480 or something close to that that this page is best viewed at.

Final Fantasy VII
Boxed set of Four (Cloud, Tifa, Aeris, and Barret)
I have to say I was expecting more when I picked
up the boxed set of four Final Fantasy VII characters
at Toys R Us one day.  To quote Gamepro magazine-
"Inaction figures is more appropriate".  Barret, Tifa,
and Aeris each have a whopping three points of
articulation.  Their heads turn and their arms rotate at
the shoulders.  Cloud has five with the addition of
bending elbows.  These toys could have greatly
benefited from moving legs.  Cloud and Tifa both have
little plastic stands to put their feet in to help them stand,Baretfig.bmp (119638 bytes) I haven't tested to see
if these stands are actually necessary but the legs on my Aeris
got bent out of shape slightly and she no longer stands up too
well.  Barret, as big as he is, sits like a rock.  Not that these
figures are all bad.  They look very nice and look exactly like
the charters.  Each is standing in one of their "regular" poses.
Cloud comes with two swords, his Buster sword and
probably the Weapon weapon (I never got clouds best sword
before I beat the game and had to return my friend's
Playstation), plus I found a scimitar (from an old Robin
Hood: Aerisfig.bmp (116158 bytes)POT Azeem) that he can hold.  Aeris comes with her staff.  Tifa uses
her fists, and Barret has a rotating Tifafig.bmp (137158 bytes)gun turret.  Come to
think of it Barret technically has five
points of articulation since the turret
and his fist both   rotate.    Plus   they
come  with inanimate Chocobo and
Frog things. If you enjoy Final Fantasy
and want some cool   figures  to  pose
on  a  shelf  or something  I   would
highly  recommend these, but they
have limited play value otherwise.

Vincent

Vincefig.bmp (175878 bytes)   I picked this figure up at my local comic shop one day.  I found it to be somewhat better quality than the others, at least that it stayed together much better than the others.  It looks just as cool, from Vincent's claw and gun to his cape and hair.  Plus it came in cool Japanese packaging since it is an import.  And since I took Japanese in school I can read some of it too! :)  Vincent has three points of articulation.

All these pictures are just scans from the back of the boxes.   Maybe someday I'll find the time to add original pictures.

I rather like the Final Fantasy Figures and I have been hoping to find Seperoth and Red XIII.  I was talking to a guy at the comic shop and he said Red XIII was had to find and he also said that there was a rumor that there was a Cid action figure but they never actually made it.  I also haven't heard anything about   Yuffie or Cait Sith figures.  I have been thinking of making my own Turks figures, but I have yet to gain any real skill at making custom action figures (you got to start somewhere though don't ya?).  I was thinking of using a Lex Luthor for Rude and the evil vampire guy from Blade looked like he could possibly make a good Reno.  I'm not sure there is a Lex Luther action figure yet though.

Spawn

I have two of the Manga spawn figures so far.  I started buying these as sortFreak.gif (74101 bytes) of a spur of the moment thing.   I was at Meijjer one day with some friends of mine when I saw Manga Freak on one of the wall pegs.  I though he was pretty kick ass looking with all the knives and claws and blades and stuff so I went ahead and bought him.  The figure is awesome looking and has a total of like 25 points of articulation including all the blades and arms.   Each of the six arms rotates at the shoulder on a ball joint and each bends at the elbow as well.  The legs rotate where they hit the body but that's it, which is one of the drawbacks to this figure.   Overall he's pretty menacing and great as a "giant psycho invincible monster the other guys have to overcome".  I don't have quite enough Spawn figures for a Spawn war or anything.  Only the two.

Samspawn.gif (72449 bytes)The second being Manga Samurai Spawn.  This figure is as cool looking as Freak.  This figure comes with a cool spear and a shield.  The armor is nicely detailed as well (I've noticed all of the toys made by McFarlan Toys are incredibly detailed).  The shield and spear are supposed to combine with the back piece to form some kind of attack bug which in the end is pretty worthless and doesn't stay together.   The toy is nice though except he has a hard time holding onto the spear and the back piece doesn't stay attached to well.  This figure has ten points of articulation that I can count including knees, legs, elbows, shoulders, and wrists!

Duke Nukem

Like the Final Fantasy figures I first heard about this toy through Game Pro Magazine.  Dike Nukem is a kick ass game and so is the action figure.   The detail is nice, Duke wears his regular outfit from the game, a maroon tank top and blue pants.  His belt and ammo strap thing is removable.  He comes with two machine guns that hang from his legs by pegs.  They even painted straps on the legs so the guns aren't just hanging from his thighs they look like they are actually hanging from something.  Duke also includes a knife that can be stored in the slot between dukes back and his backpack thing, plus the devastator weapon which also straps to his back.  This figure has eleven points of articulation including knees, legs, arms, elbows, wrists, and head.  There are only two problems I have had with this figure.   One problem is his size, he towers over most of my other toys (this isn't necessarily really a problem), and two, the machine guns and devastator are made of hard plastic that breaks easily.  I broke one of the pegs off one of his machine guns and broke one of the handles off the devastator while trying to put it in the hands of Slash (see below).   The devastator was easily fixed with model glue however.  This is a nice toy and I have eagerly been waiting to find the Pig cop and Battlelord Duke Nukem figures (I'm not sure if they're out yet).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I used to have tones of turtles action figures until one day I went crazy and sold them at a garage sale.  I did keep some of them however, and when I look back there are only a few that I wish I would have kept, (I also used to have some MASK toys I wish I would have kept too).  I kept Raphael, Leonardo, and Donatello with opening shells, General Tragg, the Triceriton, Leatherhead, and Slash.   I have also purchased Krang in his suit and Rocksteady since then.  I really wish I would have picked up the movie Leo also, those movie turtles are nice because they are made of a rubber material and can do cool moves.  Anyway, I kept the turtles because hey, they're the turtles.  Plus these figures actually look like the turtles.   They're not the Super Huge Samurai Killer Sewer Surfing Ultra Mutant Detective versions or whatever they have now.  Tragg, Triceriton, Leatherhead, and Slash I kept because they make good villains for any toys from Legos to Star Wars, to giant mutants attacking the Micro Machine city.  Plus they are all cool looking.  Tragg's hand has broken off though and so has one of Slash's claws.  Since Slash usually plays the renegade loner I have a story about how he and Tragg are bitter enemies after a fight where Slash broke his precious claw while cutting off Tragg's hand.  I still have both the fist and claw. Slash just carries the claw around as a reminder but for Tragg I have been thinking of grafting a cool chain gun to his arm instead of replacing the fist.   All of the older Turtles figures are cool but you'll be hard pressed to find any and the new turtles are pretty stupid.

Battle Tech

I only have one Battle Tech toy, I bought it to go with my Exo-squad toys.  It's some kind of mech that I can't recall the name of.  It stands hunched over like a Marauder or a Zentradi command mecha which is why I bought it.  One nice feature is the working missile launcher.  Most toys today don't have this type of thing for safety reasons.  Also the number of missiles.   It has three firing missiles on one arm plus a five missile pack extending from the rear.  The other arm has a claw.  Another nice thing is when you his the panel on the front the pilot ejects from the cockpit.  The problem with this is the canopy and seat fall out pretty easily which hinders this mech's ability to do any cool maneuvers without loosing the pilot.  The pilot is a stiff little black guy with only five points of articulation (arms, legs, head).  He came with a crappy helmet that doesn't fit and a machine gun that's bigger than he is.  I don't use either of these accessories ever and actually I found a lego pilot will fit nicely in the cockpit and I haven't been using the regular pilot much either.  This toy is OK except the canopy falls off too easily.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

I only still have these toys because they are so dumb their fun to play with.  Hey how else can you pit Kevin Cosner <SP?> (the action figure!) against Megatron or Darth Vader.  I have Two variations of Robin, one in a brown suit and one in a blue suit, the brown one has a cape and crossbow (the cape is now on a GI Joe, Kevin doesn't deserve it) and the blue one has what I guess is Blue leather armor and a regular bow.  Azeem has a thing that's supposed to go on his head but doesn't fit anymore for some reason, and a scimitar (currently belonging to Cloud- See FFVII above).  Little John had a coat thing and a Quarter staff both of which I have lost.  I also still have a few of the arrows lying around (though toothpicks are nice replacements).  These toys look pretty good but they aren't very posable <SP?> their legs and arms aren't set any any cool position.  They just stand around stiff as a board.  I also have this catapult thing that looks like it was made from trees and stuff which (SURPRISE!) didn't appear in the movie and was made only to sell toys.  I guess it worked.  I don't really use the catapult but the rocks that it came with make a cool weapon for Tragg or the Triceriton (See turtles above).
