It’s kind of hard to review a tow that I’ve already essentially reviewed twice (Starscream, Skywarp). Ramjet does offer quite a few changes to what is the same Classics seeker mold. I don’t mind the mold reuse however. On the contrary, I absolutely love the mold reuse done here. It’s a decent mold and the reuse is a strong throwback to G1. All of the Seekers were identical except for their colors and wings. The cone heads were only cone headed because the instructions called for their nosecones to be left upright.
There’s no such option on Ramjet however. His head is molded on the underside of his nosecone and it must be upright. This is the first change that should be documented from the original Starscream mold. The jet nose is considerably more blunt and shorter as a result. Also the robot face is plainly visible on the underside of the nosecone, which kind of sucks but it’s not the worst case of “robot parts visible in vehicle mode”. I’m looking at you Energon Ironhide with you huge roof mounted assembly of dishes and robot head.
The second obvious difference is the wings. In G1, the original 3 seekers were all the same save their color schemes. Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker were carbon copies of each other. The second set of Seekers, Ramjet, Dirge, and Thrust, also known as the “Cone heads”, changed this up a bit by each having a different set of wings. Also their wings were designed to put the bulk of the wing near the tail of the plane instead of in the middle. The resulting robot modes would also put the wings down on the sides of the legs instead of up higher. This simple change made the robot modes of the second set of Seekers distinctly different from the first set despite the reuse of pretty much all of the other parts.
Classics Ramjet follows this precedent by replacing Starscream’s tail wings with his regular large wings. Ramjet still has the upper wings that flip over for the Robot mode transformation, they are just much MUCH smaller. The result is of course a very nice representation of Ramjet in all his Cone head Glory.
It really is a shame the Classics line was so short lived. Ok yeah, Hasbro claims they will revive it after the movie if it’s successful. I have little doubt that the line was a success but I have huge doubts about it being revived. The movie will likely be a huge success and the next 5 years or so of Transformers toys and merchandise will end up devoted to the movie and it’s sequels. Ramjet is a nice little round off to essentially the tail end of the line. Ok, we still have yet to see the release of that Wal-Mart Devastator pack but I think everyone has mutually agreed that it’s an all around pointless and lame idea.

I am not too big on the movie, and wish for them to continue Classics more. Ramjet is my favorite Decepticon Jet from the Classics Wave. I am still disappointed with how my Starscream has a crack near his lower leg fin due to tight hinges. I still need to find a replacement.

I just wish that we’s start getting leaked Botcon info. If the exclusives are going to include Thundercracker, Dirge, and Thrust I want to pick up extra Starscreams and Ramjets while they are easy to find for kitbashing. No way I’m shelling out hundreds for those exclusives.
