Ah yes, Second Life.  It’s being heralded as the Next big thing in the interwebs these days!  Truth behold, it’s not.  You can call me some sort of non believer, but Second Life is not as fantastic as it’s made out to be.  When you take off the corporate excitement and buzz, you get 3D IRC Sex Chat.

I honestly can see how it would be considered the second comming to someone with little to no “first life“.

Man, that sounds snobish.

It is however, a fun time waster.  Waste is the active word.  I don’t think I’ve spent time playing SL that I didn’t end up realizing I pissed away doing NOTHING.  One of the biggest problems in Second life is that there’s generally nothing going on.  Even going to clubs and such for music, you’ll find 2 or 3 people actually actively chatting and “dancing”.  It’s just flat out boring.  Where are these millions of residents?

Anyway, enough ranting about Second life’s merits.  Since I’ve found little real fun interacting with others, I instead spend my time in Sandbox areas building random garbage.

For example, Space Invaders.

I was possessed one day to construct a giant space invaders display.  It actually started out as constructing a crude “2D” Sace Invaders ship inwhich I could stuff a spaceship script and fly around in.  I was going to make it drop little white bombs and everything.  The first ship was large enough to carry a parson or two in.  Then I decided to build the other three types of ships.  It was a short jump from there to building a huge array of copies.  All that was left was to stand them up on end floating in mid air.

Add in our intrepid hero ship and voila, “art”.

Then I took a mess of screen shots and left it to be obliterated when the Sandbox cleaned itself out.
