Behold, the Exclusive two pack everyone’s been clamoring for! Nevermind that “Battle for Autobot City” has nothing to with Magnus and Skywarp fighting each other, since, well, they never do. Heck, considering Skywarp “dies” or gets reformatted or whatever your view is on the whole Scourge/Sweeps/Unicron issue, and Magnus first appears in the movie, they would have NEVER battled.
Still, these are good repaints to go with the rest of the Classics and considering you’ll pay the price of “Two Starscreams” or “One Optimus Prime” for “One Optimus Prime an done Starscream”, this is a great deal.
Still, as repaints, I have little new to say about the molds themselves so I’ll have to point you to my previous reviews of Classics Optimus Prime and Classics Starscream. Let me know when you’re done.
Laa dee dah…
Oh, hello, welcome back. The first thing I’d like to point out with these guys, and something that tends to be the case with many recolored Transformers, the molds seem all around a lot tighter. In a good way. For example, I’ve always found Starscream’s wings to be pretty floppy in robot mode, but Skywarp holds up nicely. To the touch they feel different as well, it’s definitely a different type of plastic used. Or a different grade of the same plastic.
Something else to note, these are not straight repaint/remolds. Well, they aren’t retooled either but the colors are not a straight swap out as usually occurs with recolored molds. This is more apparent on Skywarp than Magnus, Skywarp’s jet mode paint application doesn’t match Starscream’s at all, and not just in base colors, I’m talking about the stripes and such. Honestly Skywarp’s color scheme fits the mold much better than Starscream’s did. The black looks so much nicer than Starscreams slightly transparent gray.
Magnus actually suffers a bit from too little paint. Well that and “White Optimus Prime Syndrome”. Still, Ultra Magnus is my favorite Transformers character and getting a Classics figure in any form is decent by me. He also forgoes the “White Prime” gig a bit in that he has blue legs and much blue dtailing on his arms. Still, a new Ultra Magnus complete with armor would have been totally kick ass. I already have plans to kitbash my own armor from an extra G1 trailer I have (I’m thinking at this point I’m not going to bother with making it transform though). Also, his black gun is missing the silver paint that Prime’s had making it kind of bland.
All things considered, I have zero complaints about this set. You get two great figures that fix a few flaws from their predecessors for the price of one of the figures alone. The set goes for $20, in case you didn’t catch that. Optimus Prime alone is that price. Skywarp is absolutely perfect for this mold and Ultra Magnus makes a nice bonus. Recommended whether you do or don’t have Prime and Starscream.

The secret is to bug the employees while armed with a stocking number.
The little scanner jobbers will tell you if an item is in the stockroom or not.
