Consider Me Addicted?

I’ve tried quite a few “customizable” styl games in my time. I’ve got Harry Potter, Magic, Pokemon, and Star Wars CCG cards. I’ve got a few Heroclix and even some Baseball Clix? I won out of a machine. Only the Star Wars CCG every really stuck with me.

But now Transformers has a figure based “Customizable” game. I’m dead meat. It doesn’t help that the figures themselves are pretty dang cool. The sculpts are certainly better than those whacky Titaniums sculps for roughly the same sized figures.

I started off with a starter set on clearance. The other day I had my wife pick me up a booster pack. I gained an Excillion and Battle Ravage figure. According to the Attacktix boards, Ravage is one of the best figure in the game because he is “rallyable”. That is, he has a chance to bring another Ravage into play when he’s killed.

I picked up a second box today, see it up there. That’s the mystery of “WHO WILL BE INSIDE?!?” That crazy anticipation that I both love and hate. At this point, early in the game of collecting, I love it. Ask me again in 3 months after I’ve bought 20 packs and I’m frustratingly hoping to find an Optimus Prime vehicle mode and Hot Shot figure.

Anyway, I ended up with Insecticon and Scorponok. This is totally awesome in my book. I read about Scorponok, he’s got this manually activated arm that lets you “fling figures across the room”. Of course he’s got to be able to get very close in range for it to work. I was a little dissapointed by the weak Insecticon at first until I discovered that Skorponok, when killed, has a chance to bring an Insecticon into play. Better still, like Battle Ravage, Insecticon is rallyable and can ALSO bring Insecticons into play upon dying.

I could really build a strategy around this Ravage/Insecticon thing.

Anyway, I’m really hoping for series 2 here. I’d totally love to see this expanded beyond Cybertron and Energon. Let’s see some Alternators, Beast Wars and G1 characters!
