Please take note of this documented historical footage (Filmed in the year 2005!).
You’ll notice that Megatron is shooting Prime with a PURPLE blaster shot. The actual fatal blow is doneby an ORANGE blaster shot. Clearly not the same weapon.
There was obviously a second gunman on the grassy knoll. It should be noted that orange blaster fire is a trademark of Autobot weaponry. As we all know from history (back in 2005 you see, whent he film takes place), Hot Rod lept in to “save” Optimus Prime only to be taken hostage resulting in the death of the heroic Optimus Prime. Later, Hot Rod becomes the successor to Optimus and turns into Rodimus Prime.
Clearly this was a conspiracy to displace Optimus Prime out of office. It is believed that Ultra Magnus was a osonspirator as well. He takes the Matrix from Optimus during the Autobot leader’s dying hour but is highly reluctant. Possibly Magnus was hoping that Prime would give it to some unknown third party to become the real sucessor. I imagine the conspiracy theorists would have never suspected that thier patsy Hot Rod would eventual be the one to take up the mantle of Autobot Leader.

LOL! As a long-time Transformers fan, I can appreciate that. I always knew there was something shady about Rodimus Prime. Even when I had the figure as a child, I didn’t trust him…

Blast! I knew there was a reason I wasn’t trusting of a character voiced by bad-boy Judd Nelson…

You. Sir, have given me my uproarious laugh of the day. I always suspected Hot Rod sabotaged Optimus Prime and now you’ve provided the circumstantial evdience to prove it!

As far as I remember Ultra Magnus never fired a shot when the battle for autobot city ocurred. Magnus tells Blur to follow him then. Later we see Blur doing all the fighting by himself. Magnus was the one who told percepter to Radio Prime for reinforcements. Magnus was nearly as strong as Prime and had he gotten off his rear end and fought, Prime might not have had to even gotten involved.
Magnus was probably jeolous of Prime’s beauty, leadership and charisma. Remember Magnus is ugly compared to Prime. Jeolousy could have been the motive. Magnus, could have pretended not to want the Matrix, to cover up his desire for it. Magnus was the number two in leadership so everyone knew he would be in charge after Primes death.
Hot Rod used up all his photon charges on lookout mountain so that possibly excludes him. But he does say ” Optimas forgive me”. This idicates one of two things either he was in on the conspiracy or he thought getting in the way got Prime killed. But remember the Matrix wanted Hot Rod to be its holder. It shined for him when he touched it meaning he was not the killer because the autobot leader is not a murderer. The matrix cannot be used by a killer. Hot Rod had nothing to be jealous of Prime, hes young, Primes old. Maybe his height bothered him but he had no way of know the Matrix would make him taller.
Grimlock once had a fued with Optimas Prime and Grimlock always wanted to be the leader. He sort laid down for Devistator, maybe so he could wait to blast Prime when noone was looking. Or another theory is one of the Autobots could have been trying to shoot Megatrons back, Missed and didn’t want to brake the autobots hearts by knowing there leader was killed by friendly fire.
Optimas waisted time though when he could have finished Megatron off instead of talking to him. He should have learned from Keano Reeves “shoot the hostage”. By 2005 Optimas had 11 years to watch “Speed” and learn.
Optimas is shot four times. Notice the first two blasts are purple and the second two are orange. So an Autobot could have fired two of the four shots.
Many autobots don’t even apear in the movie so any of them could have been the shooter or decepticon carrying an autobot weapon.
